National Child's Day History:

The concept of celebrating a Children's Day began on the second Sunday of June in 1857 by Reverend Dr. Charles Leonard, pastor of the Universalist Church of the Redeemer in Chelsea, Massachusetts: Leonard held a special service dedicated to, and for the children. Children's Day was first officially declared a national holiday by the Republic of Turkey in 1920 with the set date of 23rd April. However, it was decided that an official confirmation was needed to clarify and justify this celebration and the official declaration was made nationally in 1929 by the founder and the President of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.

International Children's Day was first proclaimed in Geneva during the World Conference on Child Welfare in 1925. On 14 December 1954, a joint resolution by India and Uruguay was passed in the UN General Assembly to encourage all countries to institute a Universal Children's Day, firstly to promote mutual exchange and understanding among children and secondly to initiate action to promote the ideals of the UN Charter and the welfare of the world's children. On 20 November 1959, The United Nations adopted the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. World Children's Day is celebrated on 20 November to commemorate this event.

In the year of 1995, Lee Rechter, a retired school counselor, set out to create National Child’s Day. She desired to see a day that honored children. In 2001, this dream came to life when President George W. Bush signed a one-time proclamation for the United States to observe the day dedicated to children on June 3rd. This presidential declaration proposed supporting children in their endeavors from their early days. And even though it was initiated as a single-day observance, it aimed to nurture and uphold the belief that all children regardless of their background deserve to have the same opportunities.

However, Rechter continued to seek resolution for the observance as she wanted to make it a complete official celebration. She finally succeeded and for the next seven years on Sunday in early June, the President proclaimed National Child's Day. Later in 2009 when President Barack Obama took office, he changed the observance to November. Each year since then, National Child's Day has been observed on November 20 at a time when children are attending school and are surrounded with their liced ones like family and friends.

The goal of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of child welfare and thus encouraging people to take a special care of their child for their growth and development. As high-quality child care keeps children safe and healthy. In addition, it helps children develop skills they will need for success in school and in their lives outside of school like social, emotional and communication skills. Pre-literacy and basic mathematical skills and concepts. An awareness of their environment and the roles of the people in it. So this day advocates parents and teachers to take special care of children.

This is a day where children are honored and celebrated. This day advocates for child welfare and care across the world and it also aims to spread awareness about various children's rights across the world like right to care, education, etc. As still in our world there are a lage number of children who lavos basic rights like right to education and are forced into things child labor or slavery. In many places of world children are deliberately denied basic education so this day also aims to raise such issues in front of our world.

This day works as an educational and awareness day. Children today face many problems that aren't apparent in daily life. Universal Children's Day aims to spread the knowledge that millions of children around the world still lack access to education, healthcare, and opportunities. As children are the future of our world so this issue is very serious and hence must be fixed for a safe and secure future of our world. So on this day UN urges all the governments and people across the world to take action regarding these issues so that these children can also enjoy their childhood.

So National Child's Day is not just a day to celebrate children for who they are, but to bring awareness to children around the globe that have experienced violence in forms of abuse, exploitation, and discrimination. Children are used as laborers in some countries, immersed in armed conflict, living on the streets, suffering by differences be it religion, minority issues, or disabilities. So this day demands action towards supporting these children today for the better future of our world tomorrow!
