India's central government has appointed V Ananth Nageswaran as its new chief economic adviser on January 28. Nageswaran succeeds K V Subramanian, who completed his three-year term last year and resigned as chief economic adviser on October 8, 2021.

Dr. Nageswaran worked as a writer, author, teacher and consultant. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and received his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Nageswaran, a former member of the Prime Minister's Economic Adviser Council (PMEAC) takes charge ahead of the presentation of the 2022 Union Budget on February 1 and the tabling of the 2021-22 Economic Survey on January 31.
